Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring to my surf lesson on the North Shore?
For your lesson, bring a swimsuit, towel, reef-safe sunscreen, and water. Reef shoes are optional but can be helpful, especially for beginners. We provide the surfboard, rash guard, and everything else you’ll need. If you’d like a life jacket, just let us know in advance.
Where do we meet for surf lessons on the North Shore?
We surf at either Chun's Reef or Puaʻena Point on Oʻahu’s North Shore. Both spots are very close to each other (within a 5-minute drive), and we make the call based on the surf conditions that day. We will confirm the exact location with you before the lesson so you’re ready to enjoy your time in the waves.
Do I need experience to book a surf lesson?
No experience is necessary to book a surf lesson! Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, we offer surf lessons on the North Shore tailored to all skill levels. Our focus is on creating a safe, fun, and authentic surfing experience that’s memorable for everyone.
Is there a minimum age for taking a surf lesson?
We welcome surfers of all ages! Children under 4 years old will participate in tandem surfing, where our experienced instructors ride the board with them, ensuring they feel safe and supported while enjoying the excitement of riding the wave. For children ages 4-6, lessons are considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on their swimming ability, their parents’ preferences, and the surf conditions on the day of the lesson. Safety is our top priority, and we tailor each North Shore surf lesson to fit the needs of every age group, making it a fun and memorable experience for all.
How long is a typical surf lesson on the North Shore?
Each lesson is a set time of two hours. We start with a 20-minute beach lesson covering surf safety and technique, and the rest of the time is spent in the water catching waves. This setup gives you a full experience with ample time to learn and progress in Oʻahu’s iconic North Shore waves.
